Ajaw Q'alel K'amja es el tercer título de los señores de las nueve casas grandes del linaje Nija'ib'. Su nombre se deriva de los términos Ajaw (señor), Q'alel (claridad, a base de la voz k'iche' q'alaj) y K'amja (receptor de la estera) (Colop 2008: 196n334, 195n333).

Anthropologist Allen J. Christenson (2007: 271n751) translates the name of the third title of the Nija'ib' lineage as "Magistrate of the Reception House," a phrase derived from Q'alel (magistrate), K'am (reception) and Ja' (house).

El lingüista k'iche' Sam Colop (2008: 205n364) explica que los once Nima Ch'okoj son unos de los 20 oficios nombrados por los Ajpop y Ajpop K'amja después de la división de los pueblos en Chulimal. Afirma que los Nima Ch'okoj "son los maestros de ceremonias." Observa también que la lista menciona 20 nombramientos pero sólo hay 19. Concluye el investigador que "El nombre faltante puede ser el de un Q'alel, que como hemos visto antes son identificados como 'capitanes' o 'ministros.'"

Q'alel es uno de los oficios importantes en la compleja estructura política del pueblo k'iche'. La voz q'alel es, según afirma el lingüista k'iche' Sam Colop (2008: 196n334) "derivada de q'alaj 'claridad' ... o de q'aq' 'fuego' por lo que significa poder." Edmonson (1971: 231) y Tedlock (1996:185) interpretan la palabra como "capitán" o "ministro", no obstante Carmack (1983: 223) dice, así citado también por Colop, '"El K'alel era un cargo con funciones judiciales.'"

Closely related to the Nim Ch'okoj lineage, Nim Ch'okoj, notes anthropologist Ruud van Akkeren (2001: 241), is "the name of an office. Each chinamit had a Nim Ch’okoj office. ... The three chinamit of Q’umarkaj-Utatlan were the ruling Kaweq, which consisted of nine lineages, the Nijaib’, and the Ajaw K’iche’." The nature of this office, however, is far from clear. Van Akkeren (2001: 242) explains, "Nim causes no problem: It means “great.” Tedlock derives the meaning of “Ch’okoj” from a gloss given by Ximénez: chocoh (wedding or banquet) (Ximénez 1985:200).

Ajaw Awilix is one of the great offices of the lords of the Nija'ib' lineage. Christenson (2007: 211n598) translates the name of the deity Awilix, after whom the Lord of the Great House of the Nija'ib' is named, as “you are watched over/cared for/commissioned.” He notes: "Throughout the text, the Quichés promise to watch over and care for their gods, providing them with offerings, sustenance, and worship (p. 290; lines 8344-8346, 8379-8388). Tedlock (1996: 297n152) suggests that it "may be derived from the Kekchi, kwilix/wilix, “swallow” (the bird) and reads the full name as Lord Swallow.

Anthropologist Allen J. Christenson (2007: 256n756) renders the name of this office, the eigth title within the Nija'ib' lineage, as "Yacolatam (Corner of the Reed Mat) Zaclatol," noting that Ximénez's use of the name, Yakolatam, U Tza'm Pop Zaklatol represents "a singular instance in the Popol Vuh text where a Nahua language title is supplied with a Quiché translation by the authors. Yakolatam is derived from the Nahua yacatl (point, edge) and tam (leaves).

El lingüista k'iche' Sam Colop (2008: 252n355) traduce el título del importante oficio como "maestro de las ceremonias de los Nija'ib." En la versión impresa en el k'iche' contemporáneo, Colop (1999: 169) escribe el nombre del linaje como "Nija'ib'ab'", no obstante aquí observamos la ortografía recomendada por los investigadores mayas del equipo Multepal (García Ixmatá et al.).

Colop (2008: 252n355): señala que el nombre de este señor principal de los Nija'ib' quiere decir "principal en línea de sucesión." Es el cuarto oficio mencionado en la lista del linaje Nija'ib', después de Q'alel K'amja (masculino) y antes de Uchuch K'amja (femenino).

Christenson (2007: 271n752) writes the name Nima K'am Ja as, "Great Reception House." This is the fourth title in the lineage Nija'ib' lords, after Q'alel K'amja (male) and Uchuch K'amja (female).

Este tercer oficio de los Nija'ib' tiene un nombre que significa "ministro o capitán", del cual se deduce su importante rol "en función de canciller" (Colop 2008: nota 335, página 251-2).

Christenson (2007: note 750, p. 256) translates the name Ajaw Aj Tzik' Winaq as "Lord Herald Person," based on the root terms Aj Tzik', meaning “crier, proclaimer, speaker, herald, announcer.” Ajaw Ajtzik Winaq of the Nija'ib' should not be confused with Ajtzik Winaq Ajaw, the first lord of the K'iches'. The closeness of their names may indicate a political alliance between the two nations during the times of these rulers.
