Wachsot

Christenson (2003, line 1903) translates the term wach sot as "face masks," one of the five fine objects that adorn the Hero Twins as they journey to Xib'alb'a. The others are leather (tz'um), yokes (b'ate), arm protectors (pach' q'ab), and face bands (yach wach), an assemblage that he K'iche' authors call, generally, kawub'al, and Christenson renders as "their finery." The root -wub' in the word indicates that these elements are intimately connected to the use of the blowgun (wub').
