Nakxit

Described as a great lord from the east, Nacxit is responsible for distributing the signs and symbols of lordship.

Among others, Tedlock (1996: 315) and Christenson (2007: 241) point to the Nahuatl roots of the name Nacxit, naui ("four") and icxitl ("foot"). While both scholars also identify this name as being one of the titles held by the god Quetzalcoatl, Tedlock claims that "Nacxit's 'populous domain,' as it is called in the PV, was probably a kingdom in Yucatán ruled by a lineage claiming Toltec descent" (315). For Christenson, the name's origins suggest a possible reference to "to the extent of his power to the four cardinal directions of the earth" (241). 

Sam Colop (2008: 186n303) explica así el origen lingüístico del nombre de la deidad Nakixt: "Conforme a Recinos (1953: 220) este nombre es una abreviación de Topiltzin Acxitl Quetzacoatl, el célebre rey tolteca que obligado a abandonar sus dominios del norte emigró a fines del siglo X a tierras de Yucatán (el Oriente de las crónicas antiguas), fundó la ciudad de Mayapán y repobló la de Chichén Itzá, civilizó la península y terminada su misión se marchó por donde vino.' Edmonson y Tedlock coinciden en el origen náhuatl del nombre y lo asocian a Quetzalcóatl.
