Tzima

El fruto del árbol jícaro, tzima (jícara), aparece varias veces en el Popol Wuj, pero se asocia principalmente con el engaño de los ka'ib k'ajolab' (dos muchachos) en Xib'alb'a. La palabra española jícara se deriva del náhuatl xicalli, el fruto del árbol Crescentia cujete. Cuando el fruto redondo está ya seco, se puede usarlo como un recipiente para líquidos, incluyendo el chocolate.

Anthropologist Allen J. Christenson (2007: n272) explains that "The calabash tree (Crescentia cujete) yields a large gourd with a hard, bonelike rind that is sometimes dried to make bowls. When dried, the gourd is whitish in color and approximately the size of a human skull," which may help to explain why it is associated with the decapitated head of Jun Junajpu in Xib'alb'a.
