The city of Chi Ismachi' is the first permanent settlement of the K'iche' people after their historic migration from ancestral Tulán, in the east. It is the precursor to the foundation of Q'umarkaj, as it is known in K'iche'. It is worth observing that when the K'iche' abandon Chi Ismachi', the Tamub' remain, marking an important moment of separation in the long, entangled history of the two nations.
