El lugar para bailar

Readers new to the Popol Wuj might not be aware that dance is embedded in the K'iche' landscape, both culturally and physically. Here, we see that the place name, Xajbakyej, contains the root term xab'al, meaning "place of dance," derived from xaj- and xoj, "dance." This is one of the many moments in which physical movement of the body, musicality, and places converge, although there are important differences in K'iche' and Nija'ib. Nija'ib authors use xo-, while K'iche' authors use xa- (Matsumoto 2017: 187).

Un detalle sútil del Popol Wuj es la íntima conexión entre el baile y el paisaje cultural-lingüístico del pueblo k'iche'.
