Sochoj

Junto con los serpientes (kumatz), sochoj (cascabel) es uno de los guardianes del bosque, como indica el sabio k'iche' Sam Colop (2008). Los demás animales en la serie, venados y pájaros, pumas y jaguares, y barba amarilla (k'anti'), son los guardianes de los bejucos (chajal k'a'm). Cabe señalar que los autores k'iche' distinguen entre el serpiente, kumatz, y el cascabel, sochoj. 

El erudito Maya Allen J. Christenson traduce a sochoj como “cascabel” (Crotalus durissus) en su traducción literal poética (2003, línea 284) y su traducción en prosa (2007: 74n79).

Along with the snakes (kumatz), sochoj (cascabel) is one of the forest guardians, as K’iche’ scholar Sam Colop (2008) indicates. The rest of the animals in the series, deer and birds, pumas and jaguars and pit viper (k'anti'), are the vine guardians (chajal k’a’m). It should be noted that the K’iche’ authors of the Popol Wuj distinguish between the snake, kumatz, and the rattlesnake, sochoj.

Mayanist scholar Allen J. Christenson translates sochoj as "rattlesnake" (Crotalus durissus) in his literal poetic translation (2003, line 284) and prose translation (2007: 74n79).
