Istayul (gen. 6)

Según apunta el lingüista k'iche' Sam Colop (2008: 190n320), el nombre del líder de la sexta generación del linaje Kaweq se deriva de las palabras náhuatles Ista, que quiere decir "blanco" o "sal" y yul, término a su vez derivado de -yo:l o "corazón." El sabio k'iche' cita los datos etimológicos en Campbell (1983). Se menciona en dos momentos del texto, una vez en la quinta generación, con Tepepul, y otra vez en la sexta generación, también con Tepepul. Anthropologist Allen J. Christenson (2007: 263n720), like K'iche' linguist Sam Colop, quoted above in Spanish, follows Campbell (1983: 53-55) in tracing the name of the leader of the sixth generation of the Kaweq lineage to the Nahuatl roots ista (white) and yol (heart), "giving a reading of 'White Heart.'" He is mentioned twice in the text, once as part of the fifth generation, with Tepepul, and once as the sixth generation, also with Tepepul. We place him in the sixth generation following the pattern wherein the 4th, 6th, and 8th generation leaders are called Istayul. See commentary by Colop (2008: 214n384).
