Tz'utuja

Los Tz'utuja son uno de los dos linajes principales asociados con los Ajaw Saqik. El otro es Q'alel Saqik. El lingüista k'iche' Sam Colop (2008: 197n336) explica que "El primer título viene de tz'utuj 'flor del maíz' (Basseta) y tz'utuja, significar´ía 'casa de la flor del maíz.' Carmack (1983: 236) lo identifica como 'un señor autóctono que vivía entre las montañas al este del primer centro quiché de Jakawitz'." El linaje asociado, Q'alel Saqik, quiere decir sencillamente "el capitán' o 'ministro de los Saqik.'"

Tz'utuja is the first of the two lineages associated with the Saqik house. The other is Q'alel Saqik. According to Carmack (2001:126, 224–27), Tz’utuja’ is the name of a mountain named for the Tamub’ calpul Tz’utub’aja, whose name translates to ‘houses of the maize flower’. He identifies the toponym Tz’utub’aja with a place on the K’iche’ plains to the northeast of San Sebastián Lemoa in the Department of El Quiché, Guatemala (Carmack 1981:fig. 3.5). Allen J. Christenson (2007: n764) translates the name of the lineage as "Maize Flower House."
