Ajb'atena Ja

El lingüista k'iche' Sam Colop (2008: 137n209) traduce el nombre del linaje Ajb'atena Ja literalmente como "los de la casa de las argollas o cinturones." Observa que tal cinturón, b'ate, se usa en el juego de la pelota y que los descendientes de esta casa o linaje "con mucha probabilidad son los Baten de Totonicapán."

Anthropologist Allen J. Christenson (2007: 193n520) translates Aj B'atena Ja as "They of the Ballgame Yoke House." The fact that little more is known about this linaje reinforces Christenson's argument that much of the historical vocabulary about the ballgame has been lost. See note 204 in the same text. K'iche' linguist Sam Colop (2008: 137n209) translates the name literally as "They of the House of the Belt," noting, as does Christenson, that these belts or yokes (b'ate) are used in the Mesoamerican ballgame. Colop adds that the descendants of this lineage are most likely the Baten family of Totonicapán.
