Ib'oy

Xajoj Ib'oy, the dance of the Armadillo (ib'oy), is the third of the five dances that Junajpu and Xb'alamq'e perform in Xib'alb'a before the Lords of the underworld. The first four are named for animals, whereas the fifth is an act of harm. Following translations suggested by Allen J. Christenson (2007), they are: Xajoj Pujuy (Dance of the Whippoorwill), Xajoj Kux (Dance of the Weasel), Ib'oy (Armadillo), Xtz'ul (Centipede), and Ch'itik (Injury). Xajoj Ib'oy es el baile del armadillo (ib'oy), el tercero en una serie de cinco bailes que Junajpu e Xb'alamq'e hacen en Xib'alb'a frente a los señores del mismo. Los primeros cuatro bailes llevan nombres de diversos animales mientras el último es un acto de violencia o daño. El lingüista k'iche' Sam Colop (2008: 119) traduce los nombres de los bailes así: Xajoj Pujuy (Danza del Chotocabra), Xajoj Kux (Danza de la Comadreja), Ib'oy (Armadillo), Xtz'ul (Quilópodo), y Ch'itik (Herida).
